Each year the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) provides updated information about safety around electrical systems in your home and offices. DII wants to remind everyone to be aware of electrical hazards with some quick factoids:
- 3300 home fires originate in extension cords
- 8% of all electrical injuries are fatal
- 2 out of every 5 deaths in space heater related fires are due to portable electric space heaters
- Any wire that is frayed or warm to the touch is dangerous.
- Touching appliances with wet hands is a shock hazard
- Electrical cords under carpeting or rugs can lead to an electrical fire
- Outlets that buzz or crackle need to be replaced right away
