DII is committed to the safety and protection of all customers, employees and associates. We wanted you all to be aware that April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and we urge everyone to take distracted driving seriously.

How do you know if you are distracted? Be aware that there are three kinds of distraction – Visual, Manual, and Cognitive.

  • Most people understand visual distraction (ie: looking at your phone while driving). Any time your eyes are off of the road, you’re visually distracted.
  • When your mind is elsewhere (cognitive distraction) you may not even be aware of the distraction. If you find yourself thinking about other things besides your driving, you are cognitively distracted.
  • Manual distraction involves your hands doing anything other than driving. This includes eating, applying makeup, and reaching for items in your car that are out of reach. Whenever you find your hands off the wheel, you are manually distracted.

We all find ourselves distracted from time to time. The important takeaway from this post is this: When you recognize that you are distracted, make every effort to refocus on the task at hand right away.

Working together to combat distracted driving will save lives, and help keep everyone safe on the roads.
